Parks

Historic Oakland has a number of parks to enjoy. Basketball, tennis, volleyball, swings, slides, and more are available at the city parks. Just a few miles outside of the city limits you'll also discover a real gem in Mildred Kanipe Park where you can enjoy wild peacocks!

Three City Parks

Downtown City Park

Located on the corner of Second and Maple, the City Park has a playground with swings. teeter-totter, jungle jim, and more. Many people use the park for picnics as well.


Kanipe Park

Located at the corner of Locust and Wells Lane, this park offers volleyball and acres of pleasant walking trails and a small creek.


Stearns Park

Donated by Dr. Stearns, this park is located off of StearnsLane at the end of Goodman Lane. Picnic facilities, tables and barbecues are available.


Mildred Kanipe Park

Mildred Kanipe Park (541-459-9567), outside Oakland, features horseback riding and hiking and is open March 15 through November 1st.

 Mildred Kanipe Park is a 1,100 acre county park east of Oakland. If you haven't been there, plan a visit. It is a beautiful, rare, lowland valley, wild area. The park is rolling hills supporting grasslands and scattered Oak woodlands along with some small stands of conifers.

Picnic sites abound. Areas outside the day-use area are accessible only by foot or horseback. Dispersed camping available by permit. Open 7 a.m. to dark Mach 15 - October 31. Pets and horses allowed in park.

Scores of wild peacocks grace the property and are great backgrounds for photographs.

DIRECTIONS: Take Oak Street East out of town for 3 miles (turns into Driver Valley). Turn left at Elkhead Road. Proceed approximately 3 miles and turn left at sign into park.
